First things first, let's get some introductions out of the way.
I am a law school graduate, living in San Diego, waiting on Bar Results and very much unemployed. I'm in a sort of limbo, educated but not licensed to practice law. More on that later.
So, hear I am, nothing to do and getting really good at Madden 10. Some things I've learned in this three month hiatus?
- I have no idea how much the "suggested retail price" of Bisquick is.
- If I'm ever on Family Feud, I'm passing.
- It's amazing how watchable movies become at 2pm. 27 Dresses anyone...
- Why, if the slant patter works so well on Madden, do more NFL teams not run this play?
Anyway, from time to time I will check in here, let you know how I'm filling my day. Today, the great San Diego sandwich hunt began. I have looked for a great sandwich in San Diego since I moved here more than 3 years ago. I've found good sandwiches (Grab N' Go I enjoy, St. Tropez, and the deli at Sprouts) but I want a great, go-to sandwich. The first stop (choosing completely at random thanks to yelp.com) was "Which Wich" in Hillcrest.

Now, there is another location in PB but we went to Hillcrest. The concept here is slightly different. When you walk in there is a wall with paper bags on it. You grab your paper bag from the type of sandwich you are looking for (i.e. Turkey, Beef, Comfort, Classics). Then, mark your bag with the different items you want on your sandwich: onion, green peppers, cheese, etc. Hand the bag to the register and off you go. I got an Italian Grinder with provolone, ton of veggies and Italian dressing with hot pepper mix. It was delicious. Solid Italian Grinder. Maddy went with the Reuben. Now, I should tell you, Maddy is a Midwest girl. And since moving to San Diego she has been in a constant search for a "good" Reuben. The typical problem in San Diego has been that the "Reubens" are, frankly, bastard versions of the real thing. Sprouts, avocado, no corned beef! All options that have poised as "Reubens." Needless to say, she was somewhat skeptical of the "Which Wich" Reuben. Enter the paper bag system. A mark for swiss cheese, one for sauerkraut and one for 1000 Island Dressing. Next thing you know, a slice of Midwest goodness is being delivered to your table.
All in all, a solid sandwich shop. Service was quick during the lunch rush and the soda fountain had that crushed cubed ice. I don't know about you, but I love that ice. Couldn't tell you why though. Up next on the Sandwich Hunt: Hillcrest Sandwich Company, Market Deli, Spicy Pickle and Gaglione's. If you have a favorite San Diego sandwich shop, let me know.
